Committee reports
Trips – Mr. Cowie said that all the information on trips is in the newsletter.
Activities – Ms. LeMay said that favors were made for the St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon. She feels that entertainment would help to bring people in. There will be a generational luncheon during April School vacation aimed at having participants bring their grand-children. A Brownie troop is participating and another troop is eager to buy food for the Food Pantry.
Friends – The next meeting will be April 4th.
Newsletter – This month’s newsletter was done in- house. The new company said they couldn’t do April. Their primary business is liturgical publishing and the CoA newsletters are a chronic problem. Mr. D. Leary asked how much the newsletters cost. Ms. Gannon said that it was paid for by the advertisers. The CoA can’t take money directly from advertisers. She is looking at having it printed at the Jail and also at other publishers. She will also talk to the Board of Trade. The Town already pays for the postage.
North Shore Elder Services – Mr. F. Leary passed out the monthly report. NSES is running at a deficit. This means there is a restriction on intake. The state budget cuts have meant a $125,000 reduction to NSES. This means a reduction in case hold of 39. Protective services are underfunded by $2 million state wide and $100,000 for NSES. There is a new program called Navigating Across Care Settings (NCAS). Its purpose is to reduce hospital re admissions by facilitating the safe and effective transfer of patients from inpatient care to their homes. NSES annual fundraiser at the Hawthorne Hotel is scheduled for Thursday April 28th. The theme is Studio 35. The cost is $75. The CoA has funds to subsidize $25 per ticket if board members
want to attend.
Old Business – none
New Business
Food Pantry – Mr. D. Leary reported Pepperidge Farms has been contributing bread for the Food Pantry. They would like the Town’s tax exempt number. Mr. F. Leary asked that the wording on the cable bulletin board be changed so that it is clear that food donated to the Food Pantry could be used at the Center. A refrigerator and freezer will also be purchased the pantry. Ms. Gannon said the Center would like a donation for the electricity bill. Mr. Goodwin wants to make sure that the Board of Health is aware of the freezer and refrigerator. Mr. D. Leary said he would notify the Health Agent.
Mr. Cowie asked if the Center was charging for transportation for trips. Ms. Gannon said that they had been all right through November but now have to charge. For example, for Debbie Reynolds at the North Shore Music Theatre, the charge for Transportation will be $2.00 out of the $39 cost of the program. He also asked if the new television was being used. Ms. Gannon said it would be used for movies and WII exercise programs.
Adjournment – Mr. Goodwin made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mr. F. Leary seconded the motion and all were in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 10:15.
